“Rukeli” by Alessandro Rak at “Periferie Animate” in Bari
On Friday, June 19, 2026, the animated short film “Rukeli”, directed by Alessandro Rak and produced by Antropica and Rai Cinema, will take part in the fifth edition of “Periferie Animate”, a festival dedicated to animation, creativity, and new perspectives on contemporary society.
The screening will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the Arena ExpostModerno, located at Via Napoli 264 in Bari.
“Rukeli” tells the story of Johann Wilhelm Trollmann, a Sinti boxer and German middleweight champion who was persecuted by the Nazi regime because of his origins. Through the language of animation, the film portrays the strength and dignity of a man who transformed even his sporting gestures into a form of resistance against discrimination and violence.
The short film’s participation in “Periferie Animate” offers a new opportunity to share with audiences a story of memory, identity, and the struggle for rights, brought to life through Alessandro Rak’s artistic and visionary approach.
“Periferie Animate” is a project by Sinapsi Produzioni Partecipate, an organisation that has been working since 2013 to make cinema a dynamic instrument for inclusion, education, and social transformation. Through screenings, meetings, and cultural activities, the festival promotes dialogue between films, local communities, and territories.
