Fifth meeting of the Ethnographic Filmmaking LAB! We dig into the plot, we reason about the theme, we identify the conflict. Writing is research into the roots of the story we want to tell, it is a journey deep inside ourselves.
The meeting was led by Federico Greco: he alternates his work as screenwriter, director and editor of feature films, documentaries and series with teaching filmmaking.
In addition to several short films presented in competition at international festivals, and directing programmes and documentaries for SKY and RAI, he has made as director and author Stanley and Us, 1999-2001 (docuseries on Stanley Kubrick, now on Prime UK and USA); Il mistero di Lovecraft, 2005 (horror feature mockumentary, winner of Fantafestival 2005, distributed by 01, Minerva and Paramount); PIIGS, 2017 (feature documentary); C’era una volta in Italia, 2023 (feature documentary). PIIGS (starring Claudio Santamaria and Willem Dafoe) and Once Upon a Time in Italy (starring Roger Waters, Ken Loach and Peppino Mazzotta) have had theatrical, cinema, TV, homevideo and platform distribution (RAI, Prime, TeleSUR, Russia Today). He is currently completing the editing of the feature documentary D’istruzione pubblica, also with theatrical and TV distribution.

He has published four books on cinema, including Star Wars – The Poetics of George Lucas (edizioni “La nave di Teseo”), and Stanley and Us (edizioni “Lindau” and “Art Digiland”) on Stanley Kubrick. He has taught cinema at La Sapienza University, Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia, Link Campus University.
