“RUKELI” WINS AT SàFF: SOCIAL ACTION FILM FESTIVAL OF NAPLES

RUKELI, the animated short film directed by Alessandro Rak, has won the Best Film award in the Animation section at the third edition of SàFF – Social Action Film Festival.

The awards ceremony took place on Saturday, 10 October 2026, at the Donnaregina Monumental Complex in the historic centre of Naples.

The jury honoured the film with the following citation:

“For bringing to light, in just a few minutes of animation of extraordinary visual power, the story of Johann ‘Rukeli’ Trollmann, a Sinti boxer and German champion whom the Nazi regime stripped of his title, his family and his freedom. Born out of a workshop with young people in Scampia, the film draws on the memory of persecution to shed light on discrimination today.”

The award recognises the connection between cinema, memory and the fight against discrimination that lies at the heart of the project. Rukeli tells Johann Trollmann’s story and grew out of a collaborative process: the idea for the film was developed during a workshop run by Chi rom e chi no in Scampia, involving a group of young Roma people and their fellow Neapolitans.

For Antropica, this award offers a new opportunity to share a story of resistance and dignity, while celebrating the collective effort that brought it to the screen.

We thank the jury and SàFF for this recognition and congratulate Alessandro Rak and the entire film team.
