This special section is dedicated to everything that makes short films unique: the chance to discover unexpected works, to be surprised by what comes next, to encounter hidden gems, and to share this experience with the audience.

Rukeli was selected among the festival’s 45 favorite short films from this year’s submissions, for a unique screening in the heart of one of Dresden’s liveliest neighborhoods. The order of the films was decided during the evening through a “short film wheel,” in an event designed to create a direct dialogue between the audience, programmers, and short cinema.

The screening took place on Thursday, April 16, at 6:00 PM, at GrooveStation in Dresden.

Presenting the story of Johann Trollmann, a Sinti boxer persecuted by the Nazi regime, in Germany carries an inevitably profound meaning for us. It means bringing this memory back to the country where that persecution was organized, legitimized, and turned into a system.

We hope that German audiences received RUKELI not only as a film, but as a fragment of living memory.
