RUKELI by ALESSANDRO on Italian Magazine “Il Riformista”
Rukeli by Alessandro Rak on Italian’s magazine “Il Riformista”.
On the occasion of Rukeli being selected among the five finalists at the Corti d’Argento 2026, Il Riformista dedicated an article to the animated short film directed by Alessandro Rak.
The film, a finalist in the animation category, brings back to the forefront the story of Johann Wilhelm Trollmann, known as Rukeli, the Sinti boxer who challenged Nazism. It is a story of pride, resistance and freedom, which also becomes a symbol against all forms of oppression, discrimination and antigypsyism.
Rukeli was developed within the workshops of the association Chi rom e chi no, carried out with the active involvement of a group of Roma and Neapolitan teenagers. The short film is written by Emma Ferulano and Biagio Di Bennardo, produced by AntropicA, in co-production with Sideways Studios and Film i Väst, in association with Mad Entertainment, in collaboration with Rai Cinema and with the support of the Film Commission Regione Campania.
The article was published at a particularly significant moment, close to the Corti d’Argento final and within the context of the Week dedicated to the promotion of Romaní culture and the fight against antigypsyism.
