“RUKELI” AT TOKO FILM FESTIVAL 2026

Following its appearances at the Giffoni Film Festival, RUKELI continues its journey through the province of Salerno. The animated short film directed by Alessandro Rak will be presented at the Toko Film Fest in Sala Consilina as part of the toKids – Out of Competition section.

The screening is scheduled for Sunday, 26 July, at 10:00 p.m. Alessandro Rak will attend the event to present the film and, after the screening, meet the audience to discuss the origins of the project, the animation process and the creative work behind the short film.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity to explore the story of Johann “Rukeli” Trollmann, the German Sinti boxer persecuted by the Nazi regime, and to discuss the themes of memory, identity, discrimination and resistance addressed by the film.

Through the language of animation, RUKELI brings a long-forgotten historical story back to light, transforming it into a personal account of dignity and resistance against violence. The film combines images, memory and imagination to give a voice to an athlete whose identity and talent were regarded as a threat by the ideology of the Reich.
