At the 82nd Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia, Rukeli was screened in the Orizzonti Shorts section.
The animated short film, directed by Alessandro Rak and written by Biagio Di Bennardo and Emma Ferulano, tells the story of Sinti boxer Johann Wilhelm Rukeli Trollmann, a symbol of resistance, dignity, and freedom against Nazism.
Developed through a workshop with Roma and non-Roma youth in Scampia and promoted by the association Chi rom e chi no within the European project TRACER Transformative Roma Art and Culture for European Remembrance, coordinated by Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna and funded by the European CERV programme, the short film is a collective work linking memory, art, and civic commitment.
The screening and the film’s journey are explored in a feature published in Unibo Magazine.
